Creo que es tiempo de volver a escribir... ya deje pasar muchos dias, horas, letras, acentos y comas se han perdido en el pasado. Es tiempo de darle vida a nuevas ideas que daran paso a esta nueva etapa del blog. Vamos a darle a ver que pasa, no se fijen en las faltas de ortografia ni en los cambios de lenguaje. Aqui se vale todo, ya que despues de todo la vida no vale nada.

Que rápido pasa el tiempo

Cada vez que volteó a ver el calendario en mi oficina los días avanzan al parecer más rápido. Siento que hace poco era Febrero y ahora ya tenemos que estar pensando en Julio - Agosto. Y así se pasará otro año, súper rápido. Nos hacemos viejos y muchas veces no hacemos o logramos nuestros planes que nos pusimos al principio del año. Creo que a todos nos ha pasado esto pero nunca es tarde para salvar lo que resta del año y empezar el otro con planes mas realistas. Buena suerte a todos en sus planes, en su vida y en las cosas que los hacen feliz.

Hay que luchar por la felicidad, por la verdad y la belleza. La felicidad de poder despertar todos los días contentos, sin resentimientos, dispuestos a tener un día productivo. La verdad de conocer lo que se tiene que hacer, de lo que es bueno y malo. De tener el valor de cambiar si hay cosas que no nos gustan. Y luchar por la belleza de las cosas. En todo hay belleza, en el clásico atardecer, en la risa de un niño, en los ojos de tu mujer... en todo podemos encontrar belleza.

Mi meta es identificar esos tres aspectos de mi vida, luchar por estar feliz en esas áreas y extender mi apoyo a mis amigos que también busquen ser mejores personas.

I knew nothing about the University of California at Berkeley when I was a little kid growing up in Tijuana, Mexico. The first time I heard about the University was when a friend from high school got accepted. Everybody was happy and amazed; what I heard repetitively was: “it’s the number 1 public university in the world.” That was enough for me to get me interested.

After a solid end to my high school and my Mexican education I decided to enroll in Community College in the US. Classes were easy, reading assignments were a book per class and we would write about three essays per semester. After four years of studying and working part time it was time to move on, to transfer.

My options were limited, not by geographical locations or GPA or money. They were limited because no one in my family had ever gone to a university in the US. I didn’t know what to do or what schools to apply. I was under the impression that the best schools were out of my reach. I decided to apply to my state’s local university and the local UC campus. My goal was to stay close to home and graduate. However something happened. I remembered about Berkeley. I knew that even if I didn’t get in it would be something great to talk about in the future. I knew that I could say: “I applied to Berkeley. I didn’t get accepted but I applied.” That with just that I would be different from everybody else. That’s how special Berkeley was for me. Just the name itself was enough.

To make a long story short, I got accepted to Berkeley. I spent the majority of my first semester waiting for a letter telling me that it was all a big mistake. I thought that they were expecting another David Leon with a better GPA and more extracurricular activities. Since that didn’t happen, I knew I was where I was supposed to be. My dream came true and I was living the life of a college student attending the best public university in the world. I enjoyed it, believe me.

Berkeley represents a lot to me, even now that I graduated and I’m geographically away from campus. To know it’s the number one makes me proud. But then I started thinking, many great athletes get to the number one spot and then fail to maintain themselves at the top. What has Berkeley done different?

What has UC Berkeley done? It has widened the gap. Each and every day a bit more. It has stayed at the top and continues to do so because of the great students, professors and staff that are part of it. It was and still is an honor to have walked on Sproul, gone up the Campanile and had lunch at Memorial Glade. To have the opportunity to study in its great library and eaten the best tater tots for breakfast. To attend the best football and basketball games I have ever seen and to feel the diversity of the students and faculty.

Berkeley is the best, not just in terms of academics but in terms of life experience. It taught me so much about myself, it made me discover hidden potential and it made a better man out of me. You don’t get to read one book per class; you get to read a book per week or per day for some poor souls. And you get to write endless papers and study an amount of hours you thought was not possible for your brain. But it’s all part of the magic, the experience, the life. Yes, tests and essays can make you a better student, but the right setting with the right people will definitely make you a better individual. This is what Berkeley does and this is why it’s the number 1 public university in the globe.

As I believe everybody else should, I don't want to get up in the mornings. It is the perfect combination of coziness and laziness. But I do get up and I get dressed... I get out of my house and I stare at my Harley... she is just waiting for me. As I make my way to the border I realize that it's not bad after all. I get to ride my baby every day and we get to spend some quality time. As I start to realize this I become more awake, if I don't the wind in the freeway will make me be awake. I guess, riding makes me happy and it's a therapy for me. It makes me feel complete and it makes me feel warm inside. It is an activity that I do everyday and it is my favorite thing to do. I have discovered a true passion in life. I love it.

Hace mucho que no escribo pero entre que estaba coordinando un evento super importante y que me estaba muriendo de gripe no habia tenido oportunidad de entrar aqui.

Me toco coordinar el primer dia de acceso libre para el evento TIJUANA INNOVADORA. El dia estaba formado por cuatro conferencistas que hablarian de videojuegos. Fue un trabajo muy pesado pero interesante al mismo tiempo. Andaba de un lado para otro, coordinando con los de backstage, choferes, seguridad, camerinos etc.. pero me gusto mucho porque conoci a gente curada y aprendi algo nuevo. Me felicitaron y despues de eso me invitaron a una comida pero preferi irme a mi casa, comprar un 12 de tecate lights y pedir unos camarones empanizados en el resta de comida china local. Fue una excelente celebracion acompanado de mi mom.

Y pues sobre mi encuentro con la muerte pues que les puedo decir, fue el lunes pasado que me empece a sentir mal y el martes y miercoles me fui a inyectar. Creo que no sirivio de mucho porque el jueves no pude ir a trabajar y me estaba muriendo pero ahora aqui estoy de vuelta ya que tengo que sentirme mejor porque manana tengo una carnita asada con mis primos.

Fuera de eso me la he pasado en la moto, fui a comer con Sylvia al Chilis y ahorita rente dos peliculas, THE KILLER INSIDE ME y HARRY BROWN, a ver que tan chacas estan.

Adventures, taxi drivers and football

Today was a cool day, it wasn´t the most fascinating day but it was interesting and it made me happy. I woke up, made breakfast for the family then watched a game with Dad. I went to run an errand to the Zona Rio and in a red light I was talking to a taxi driver who liked my bike. Afterwards I finished with what I wanted to do, came back, ate, did the dishes and watched my fantasy football team kick ass. Right now I am listening to The Doors and feeling relaxed.

Hopefully I can have a productive week at work. My computer I think died but I will see if I can troubleshoot it tomorrow. My boss is out of the country and my CEO will work with me in the office, let´s see how that goes. I might see a friend from school becuase he works pretty close so we might go out for lunch one of these days. I also want to go out next weekend on my bike to Mexicali-Calexico. I want to visit my friend Diana and hang out with her and have a long and cool talk.

Aside from that everything is cool I guess. Trying to figure out my next moves in life but basically just worrying about today and tomorrow and not really thinking a lot about the future. I don´t want to stress myself out and I just want to have fun and do cool things.

Ahora me quede de ver con el Montes y nos fuimos a dar la vuelta en las motos. Empezamos dando la vuelta por la Zona Rio y luego nos fuimos a Playas, ahi nos fuimos al Malecon y luego paramos en un cafe. Estuvimos tomando unos ricos tes y cotorreando a toda madre. El regreso estuvo cool a excepcion de que nos tragamos el drenaje en la internacional pero fuck it. Hay que ser rockers.

Vamos a ver si luego podemos ir a Ensenada super temprano para ver el amanecer.

Well... lately there has been a few things going on... I am looking for my own apartment in TJ. I feel more comfortable with my bike and that you can buy an electric stove for 30 bucks at Walmart. I haven't been able to write as I had planned but I will start writing at least here in my blog once a day. Let's see if that wakes up the desire to keep writing.

Everyday I get to the border and I see more people in motorcycles crossing. It is a super fast way to do it, for sure, but it is also expensive to get the bike in the first place. I am glad more people are deciding to do it because in the long run it will make others more conscious about bike riders when driving around Tijuana. The freedom that you experiment is awesome because you are one with the road, you feel its texture and you understand its curves. The air is probably the most awesome part, sometimes is just so much that you think you are starting to lift off. Riding is cool.

Quiero compartir un par de citas de Cees Nooteboom de su libro "Hotel Nómada". Ayer lo estuve leyendo y me gusto mucho, esta bastante interesante.

La primera:

Today was a special day in the morning. I was riding my Harley and then all of the sudden it started to rain. At first it was just a few drops here and there but then it got a bit crazy, nothing too intense or anything but enough to get my gear completely wet. It was a first for me, riding under the rain, but it wasn't that bad. Hopefully on the way back the sun decides to come out and help me out.

Ayer por la tarde llegó el tan esperado "paquete argentino" que contenía la película "El Secreto de sus Ojos". Esta movie fue galardonada con el Oscar a la mejor película extranjera. Priscilla y yo la fuimos a ver y nos quedamos atónitos. Es un film excelente. Ahora de hecho, tendré movie night en mi casa, a las 6:30 p.m. y veremos otra vez la pelis. Altamente recomendada para todos.

Rosarito, Don Cano and the ride back

Today I woke up super early.

I went to Rosarito and had breakfast at El Nido.

I went half way, maybe less, to Ensenada and came back.

After 25 minutes waiting outside his shop Don Cano and his wife showed up.

I spent about an hour talking to him, telling him my ideas and hearing how he would do them.

I paid 30 bucks and we agreed that I would go back next Saturday.

The things that I ordered are awesome and I will post pics of them probably by next week.

On my way back I saw a bunch of bikers, they were going to Ensenada probably.

I need a camera :(

So many things in such a short time

Today I woke up really early, about 6:30 a.m. I heard my dad outside and I went out and help set up for our Saturday of selling stuff. After that I had breakfast and then took my bike to a place where they were going to add some things I bought for it. The mechanic, Juan, was pretty awesome. I think he is a biker himself and he knows a lot about Harleys. He installed shock absorbers, passenger pegs, a passenger seat and new handgrips. He also modified my mirrors (instead of being on top of the handlebar they are below it) and gave me some pointers on how to legally split lanes (Ok, there is no legal way to do it but he gave me some useful tips). The bike looks more awesome I have to say. I am thinking of fixing my camera these next few days so I will put up some pictures soon. I learned a lot during that couple of hours. Afterwards I came back to the house, helped to sell some things and then I went to check my work email.

My boss was flipping out and he was super worried about some extra charges that a company made. He thought I was paying double and for a second there I thought I was going to get fired by email on a Saturday. That would have definitely sucked. Today I was riding the 52 and I noticed my shoelaces were untied. So I stopped in the emergency lane, flashed my emergency lights and proceeded to tie my shoelaces. After about 35 seconds a car stopped and this really cool dude came up to me. He was wearing a vest, jeans, boots and sunglasses. No shirt or jacket, just the vest, like David Gahan from Depeche Mode. He was about 50, white and super biker. He asked if I had trouble and I just told him that I was just tying up my boots. I asked him what group was he from and he said: THE UGLIES. They are from San Diego for what I got from the conversation. We said goodbye and after I passed him a couple of miles down he waved, I nodded.

Ayer le compre a mi papa 2 libros por el dia del padre, este y otro mas que se ve interesante. Como era de esperarse le quite uno inmediatamente y lo empece a leer yo. Ya voy a la mitad o poco mas y me gusta mucho. Es de lo mas refrescante que he leido y es un buen libro para continuar con este habito y tal vez empezar a escribir uno propio. This is a picture of me in my car while I wait hours to cross from San Diego to Mexico. When I start taking my Harley to work I will do approximately 1 minute wait for each way. Which is FUCKING awesome! I will probably save more than 2 hours a day, time that I can dedicate to reading, riding or just doing nothing. Peaceful time instead of stress. Hahaha... good bye border wait... hello FREEDOM.

I saw the movie "The Green Zone" yesterday and it is really good. It wasn't big on box office revenue but I have my theories why. The movie talks about WMD in Iraq, or lack there off. And it portrays some elements of the government there (if not all) as faulty and ignorant of local issues. I totally recomend it and I hope more people decide to learn more about this and other things that are important. If you want to find out more about the war in Iraq please read the book by the same name by Rajiv Chandrasekaran. If you want to watch a real documentary about the war on Iraq please look for "No End in Sight" by Charles Ferguson. (See video)

Hoy desperté y tuve un sueño mega rarísimo, pero bueno, de repente pasa creo yo. Quiero escribir poquito porque últimamente le he agarrado mas sabor a la vida, siento que ya estoy iniciando una etapa diferente. Creo que estoy aprovechando cada segundo que tengo para hacer algo/convivir con alguien y eso me gusta mucho. Aprovecho las conversaciones, las cervezas y los correos que me mando con mis amigos más de lo normal. Creo que valoro más las cosas y me pongo a pensar en todo lo que he hecho, todo lo que ha pasado y las posibilidades de lo que pasara… infinitas. Ya quiero saber que va a suceder en el futuro pero al mismo tiempo quiero vivir el presente lentamente, intensamente y sin arrepentimientos. Quiero volver a ponerme en contacto con la gente que siento que necesito hablar con ellos otra vez y quiero hacer y deshacer el mundo. Quiero ponerme otro tatuaje, comprarme una moto y vivir solo. Quiero escribir mas, tomar fotos y hacer más ejercicio. Quiero ver más películas y hacer un grupo de gente mega chingona y rifadora. Quiero todo y a la vez no requiero de mucho para ser feliz. Esa es la meta de la vida no? Ser feliz? Entonces creo que la estoy logrando.

Vaya día tan más interesante. Me levante después de tener un sueño súper raro, hicimos fila como todos los días y llegue al trabajo mega hambriento. Después de unos ricos hot cakes me dedique a trabajar en mi proyecto mega tedioso pero que ya mero termino. Salí, fui por mi papa e hicimos una línea más aburrida todavía y tuve que ir a recoger algo antes de llegar a la casa. Llegue a la casa y comí, platique con mi mama y me bañe. Oh, esperen… no fue interesante, es lo que hago todos los días…. Se vale soñar.

Ok nos preparamos para un dia muy productivo y un fin de semana en chinga. Hay que sacar un proyecto y afortunadamente cuento con muy buena ayuda. Espero terminarlo a tiempo para poder empezar a trabajar en otras cosas mas interesantes.

Escribo en espanish porque ya tenia rato que no lo hacia y pues aqui va. Hay que investigar como mandar dinero a China, contactar a unos agentes y trabajar en la compu. Que rico es trabajar :)

I have been thinking about my life and about all the things that I have done. I am pretty happy with most of them, although there are some that I would change in a heartbeat. I have fucked up several times and I have done good things another number of times. I believe that I have many adventures to live and I would like 1,000 years to live all of the things that I have in mind. Unfortunatelly I don't have that amount of time so I have to be selective. What do you want to do with the time that you have left? Do you want to travel and write like me? Do you want to make new friends? new lovers? have new jobs and new places to live? There are many things that people want to do and some don't do any during their life. I think that if you really want to, you can accomplish a lot during the next following years. You can set your mind and reach one by one, building confidence and experience. Old people say that they would love to have the experience they have in the body of a 20 something year old. I think that we should be smart about our choices because I don't want to be someone that says stuff like that. I want to say, when I was 20 I did incredible things, things I might not do again, but when I was 30, 40 and 50 I also have done really amazing things. Never stop trying, never stop living. Success is achieved through perseverance and dreams.

I have started reading this book and it looks very promising. It's about the first year after Saddam Hussein was ousted from power by Coalition forces. It deals with everything that happens inside "The Green Zone" (safest place in Baghdad for military, high ranking officials, contractors and others) and how nobody cares about what happens outside. We'll see how it goes.

3 She got to the train station, it had stopped raining a few minutes before. She spared a few coins to an elderly homeless lady and she felt that at least there was someone in a worst situation than her.

She was sitting pretending to read a book and listening to music on her iPod. She saw how a bicyclist was struggling to fit his ride, how two workers with hard hats where chatting to a couple of girls. She saw many people reading the paper, drinking coffee, writing on their computer. All of the sudden, the train stopped and a voice was heard on the speaker: Sorry for the abrupt brake. We are experiencing a delay, please bare with us for five minutes while the train in front clears the station. Thank you.

Just what I needed, she said. Stuck underground, with lots of weird people. But then she spotted guy sitting on the opposite side of the train car. He was reading a book, a hardback. He was also listening to music and had the jersey of the local football team. He seems interesting, she thought. What book is he reading? Oh well, I don't think he sees me or realizes I exist. Just as she said this, the man looked at her and stared at her for a couple of seconds, then, he smiled, or it looked like he did. She got embarrassed, she blushed and she looked down to her book.

He got up and walked towards her...

2 She went out, it was cloudy, raining... not what she expected. Did she have expectations? Was there a difference between cloudy and sunny, winter and summer? She still went out the way she was dressed... jeans, boots and a black shirt. She always dressed that way, it was something that hadn't changed. It was the only thing that identified her now.

She started walking towards her dead-end job, feeling the drizzle in her face, smelling the cold morning air. She thought about stopping for a coffee, she discarded the idea almost immediately. She walked uninspired.

There were few people on the street, passing by, leading their own miserably lives, she thought. Going about their pathetic excuse for a life in this big world of lie, this world of nothingness.
